When Mists of Pandaria first hit, I rolled a monk (monk… roll… get it?). I had no clue what my ultimate goal was for this toon, but I suspect I was planning on a tank/dps dual-spec, since that is my well-established comfort zone. I dutifully leveled Oldmantorgo through the Eastern Kingdoms as a Windwalker, but I wasn’t very compelled by the DPS mechanics. Once I hit Outland, I hit a wall and had to make a decision: continue leveling and be bored, or quit and have yet another abandoned toon on my Character Select list (sorry Yetiglanchi, but shadow Priesting just wasn’t my thing). In a rare (for me) moment of thinking outside the box, I decided to switch gears and try out the Mistweaver spec. Suddenly, my monk became fun to play! I could solo groups of mobs (slowly) without fear of death, I got faster queue times for dungeon runs, and I could choose to heal by Fistweaving (weird, but wonderful) or by “traditional” methods (stand back with the ranged DPS and toss heals to those in need). I was outside my usual tank/DPS comfort zone, and I loved it! I have no intention of shelving Misstorgo to make Oldmantorgo my main, but I do plan on keeping the Old Man viable with gear from SoO LFR and the Timeless Isle. I may not be a great healer, but I have to say I’m having a LOT of fun trying!
